It is to sail against the odds and rescue the men and women you swore an oath to save. The mariner at the wheel with his charts and raging seas defies the forces of ocean and wind and comes home. The Man at the Wheel statue was established 1623 in Gloucester Massachusetts. His eyes, fixed on the water, every muscle straining to hold the wheel steady. You can feel his courage and tenacity as if you were gripping to the decks beside him.
