Since its inception in 1790 as the Revenue Cutter Service, the U.S. Coast Guard has continuously evolved to fulfill its unique role in serving our nation. Throughout history, we have consistently responded to emerging challenges and threats, expanding our missions from domestic icebreaking and natural resource protection to drug interdiction and marine safety. Today, our service stands as a vital element of national defense and international security.

As we look to the future, the U.S. Coast Guard remains committed to maintaining mission excellence and embracing new opportunities. We will lead in global maritime governance, enforcing the rule of law, facilitating secure maritime commerce, and protecting people and natural resources amid a dynamic geopolitical landscape. Our innovative approach will optimize our people, assets, and authorities to ensure the security of the American public.

The Coast Guard will continue to build strong partnerships both domestically and internationally, strengthening the fabric of homeland security. We will proudly share our rich history and connect it with the communities we serve. On this special occasion, we honor the newest Coast Guard City, Key West, which recognizes the enduring support shown to Coast Guard members and their families in the lower Keys.

In addition, the “Keel-Laying” at the future site of the National Coast Guard Museum in New London, Connecticut, will be a significant event this month. This state-of-the-art facility will preserve our “1790 to Now” evolution story, making it accessible and inspiring for future generations.

Our esteemed service’s history and promising future are a result of your dedication to readiness and mission execution. Each one of you contributes to the heartbeat of the Coast Guard, adding to our legacy daily. I am immensely proud of your collective accomplishments, and as we commemorate this day and our shared history, I extend my heartfelt gratitude to you and your families for your unwavering service to our country.
